2018 Resolutions

From where I sit now, 2018 is shaping up to be a great year, both personally and professionally. I have a few resolutions and goals I wanted to jot down so I can see if I actually accomplished them in 2018.

Less Photos of My Children

I want to take (and share) less photos of my children in 2018. While I love taking pictures of my kids doing all sorts of activities, I think the longterm effects of that can be harmful. There have been numerous studies and articles about the effects of a phone screen on a child, but very few on the lack of privacy they have now. My children have little expectation of privacy because I can whip out my phone at a moments notice and take dozens of photos with little effort. I want to change that in 2018, and only use it during times they would expect to be photographed, or only for events I really want to memorialize.

Walk Our Dog More

We have an old English bulldog named Ralph and I’ve gotten lazy about walking him over the last year. We have a big backyard, and it’s easier to just let him out there than take him for a walk. I just purchased a new leash and collar, and I will be walking him more in 2018.

Read 20 Books

I found a good app named BookBuddy to track what physical books you own and have read (I like reading paper books over eBooks). I would like to read 20 books in 2018. Here’s a few:

  • The Force by Don Winslow
  • A Random Walk Down Wall Street by Burton G. Malkiel
  • Version Control by Dexter Palmer
  • The Bone Tree by Greg Iles
  • The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen
  • End of Watch by Stephen King
